Lee Pace was born Lee Grinner Pace on March 25, 1979 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. His father was in the oil business and this resulted in Pace spending several years in Saudi Arabia when he was a child. By the time he was a teenager, he and his father moved to Houston, Texas. Pace spent some time acting at the Alley Theatre in Houston and he had to drop out of high school in order to have enough time to do this. He ended up going back to high school though so he could graduate and get his degree. He got his diploma from Klein High School which was just outside of Houston. He did have a very successful run though at the Alley Theatre and participated in productions of The Spiders Web and The Greeks. Lee Pace was accepted to the prestigious drama division of the Juilliard School of Music in 1997. In the drama division, he acted in plays such as Romeo and Juliet, Richard II and Julius Caesar. He played Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, the title role in Richard II and Cassius in Julius Caesar. Pace graduated with a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Juilliard School of Music and was a graduating classmate of actors Anthony Mackie and Tracie Thoms. After graduating from Juilliard, Pace starred in a number of off Broadway plays like The Credeaux Canvas and The Fourth Sister. He was even nominated for a few awards based on his stellar performances. The very first film that Pace received a lot of recognition for was his role in the 2003 film Soldiers Girl. He played the central role of Calpernia Addams who was a transgender woman dating and Army soldier named Barry Winchell. The character of Winchell was murdered because of his sexuality and his relationship with Calpernia Addams. Pace spoke a lot about his first movie role and how he felt that nothing, not even his extensive training at Juilliard, could have prepared him for it. He studied for months for the role, watching documentaries on transsexuals and even donning prosthetic boobs and hips to get the feeling of a female body. Lee Pace starred in a number of other films, but it all seemed to be the perfect preparation for his role in the American drama Pushing Daisies. Pushing Daisies has been a hit since it first debuted and it is no coincidence that Lee Pace is the starring role.
